Software I use, gadgets I love, and other things I recommend.
I don't get asked a lot about what's in my toolbelt but here's a big list of all of my favorite stuff. Happy to be sponsored by any of these companies if they want to send me free stuff. 😜 Let's be honest, my wife bought me most of these things anyway.
Workstation
16" MacBook Pro, M4 Max, 64GB RAM (2024)
Best piece of hardware I've ever owned. It just works.
UPLIFT V2 L-Shaped Standing Desk
Sit-stand desk with 3 legs. The L-shape gives me tons of real estate and the height adjustment keeps me moving throughout the day.
LG UltraFine 4K Display
What a beautiful display and oooh the 8 million pixels.
Samsung 49" Odyssey G9 Super Ultra Wide QLED Gaming Monitor
My main monitor is a 49" ultrawide. I love the real estate and the aspect ratio is perfect for development.
Apple Magic Keyboard
I'm a big fan of the Magic Keyboard. I love the feel of the keys, the touchID, and not having extra wires.
Apple Magic Trackpad
Gestures and all the things to make using a mouse easy.
DPS 3D Insight Gaming Chair
I'm in the chair all day, so i might as well be comfortable.
Sony WH-1000XM5 Wireless Noise-Cancelling Headphones
Noise cancellation at its finest. I love these headphones. They sound great and the mic comes through clear.
Sonos Five
For the days when I need a little more bass.
Software Tools
Visual Studio Code (vscode)
I've tried Intellij, Sublime, pyCharm, and Atom but I always come back to vscode. It's fast, it's extensible, and it's just a great editor. I also sometimes use the Synthwave x Fluoromachine & epic animations.
iTerm2
Transparent terminals, split screens, etc. I somehow feel more productive with it.
Docker
Let's make sure it works in a container and not just on my computer.
Zsh + Oh My Zsh
Customizations to make the terminal feel like home.
Parallels
Great software for running VMs. Has saved me from building about a thousand admin interfaces for my various projects over the years.
Research Tools
Elastic Stack
Search, Observe, Protect. #1 Security XDR for any organization.
Adversary Emulation Tools
Various C2 frameworks and red team tools for threat research and detection validation. Essential for understanding attacker tradecraft.
Design
Figma
Figma is a great tool for designing and prototyping. I'm not a UI designer, but it makes it really easy to develop components and mockups.
Next.js & Tailwind CSS
It's what I used to create this personal website. I love the simplicity of the framework and the utility classes.
Unproductivity
Saber Theory Proffie Neopixel Obi Saber
Great way to blow some steam and all of the presets are amazing.
Qidi X-Max 3D Printer
This thing is huge, but it prints amazing. It's basically an industrial printer.
📣 Hey brands! Feel free to sponsor me with any of these products (or better ones). My DMs are open. I promise to say nice things about you on the internet. 😄
